World TB Day 2017

Italiano  UMdL participates at the World TB Day 2017 organizied by the Stop TB Partnership and supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) and by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Also this year UMdL actively collaborated with Stop TB Partnership  in Italian translation of Campaign posters available at: www.stoptb.org/events/world_tb_day/2017/materials.asp.

Key slogans of 2017 Myth/Fact Campaign are: OVER 10 MILLION PEOPLE DEVELOP TB EACH YEAR.  TB IS THE WORD’S LEADING INFECTIOUS KILLER; TB IS AN AIRBORNE DISEASE THAT EXISTS IN EVERY COUNTRY.  EVERYONE IS VULNERABLE; LESS THAN HALF OF THE RESOURCES NEEDED ARE AVAILABLE TO END TB; THE EXISTING VACCINE DOES NOT PROTECT AGAINST TB IN ADULTS; THERE IS TREATMENT TO PREVENT YOU FROM BECOMING SICK IF YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO TB; TB IS CURABLE, WITH A TREATMENT COSTING AS LITTLE AS $30; SHORTLY AFTER STARTING TB TREATMENT, MOST PEOPLE CAN NO LONGER SPREAD THE DISEASE; MORE THAN 4 MILLION WHO DEVELOP TB EACH YEAR LACK ACCESS TO QUALITY CARE.

Lastest information about TB, the WHO End TB Strategy, and the Sustainable Development Goals are available on WHO website: WHO – Media Center – Tuberculosis Fact sheet N°104 Reviewed March 2017.

2015 WHO data about Italy show a TB mortality rate (in no HIV-positive people) of 0.55 (0.54-0.55) cases every 100,000 people, an overall TB incidence of 5.8 (5-6.7) cases every 100,000 people. These and further data are available on WHO  database: Tuberculosis country profiles.
